How does civil society get involved in a State’s examination under ICESCR?

As part of the reporting process to the UN civil society organisations can submit independent reports on issues contained within ICESCR. These submissions should provide up-to-date, accurate and relevant information for the expert UN Committee so it can more precisely question the State on its human rights record.

FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) is an independent human rights organisation which exists to promote equal access to justice for all. We recognise that human rights are fundamental to everyone and permeate all areas of law and one of our key aims is to advance international and national standards that promote human rights. With the state examination under ICESCR coming up, FLAC coordinated a Shadow or Parallel Report from Irish civil society organisations on how the State is meeting its obligations under the Covenant.
